Phenom National Basketball Camp - 2023
YEAR 2 PARTNERING WITH PHENOM!
This is one of our favorite events we get to work at. Players and families from all around the world come together for a three-day camp that works on so much more than just basketball.
If you aren't familiar with the Phenom America events, think of the best of the best players from 4th grade through 11th grade.
Notable alumni are all over the NBA and WNBA. Over 170 current NBA players have attended the Phenom Camp, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, the Ball Brothers Karl Anthony-Towns, and Trae Young to name a few!
As the girls/women's side of the game grows every year, over 50 active WNBA players also graced the court at Phenom events, including All-Star Game MVP - Kelsey Plum.
Phenom's National Camp is a huge draw for incredibly talented youth basketball players from all over. This year almost every state was represented, Japan, Australia, and parts of Europe! Players really want to see how they compare to other top talent in their age group.
Outside of basketball, it gives players an awesome opportunity to meet other players from all over the world! They learn proper nutrition, the fundamentals of working out, and preparing your body for high-intensity activities. They also help the kids set goals for life and basketball for the upcoming year and encourage them to write a letter to their hero, who usually is one of their parents in attendance.
From a strictly fan of basketball perspective, this event is awesome. It gives players who may have only slight exposure to the level of talent out there an opportunity to see what their game lacks. Even from last year to this year, you saw players come back better and having improved upon what was a weakness the previous year.
In terms of the business side, Phenom is partnered with some of the biggest and best in the game. Marriott Hotels, Nike, Gatorade, St. Jude, Baden, Disney, and Grip Spritz (shameless promotion).
Phenom dealing with such high-quality players and top-of-the-line partners, it makes being a part of their national camp such an honor.
Being our second year, we had a better feel for how the whole weekend went down. Last year the event was held in San Diego and about 600 boys across all the age groups were in attendance.
We had our traction pads courtside at all eight courts to ensure players always had grip on their basketball shoes. While the camp was going on, I was running around the gym like crazy talking to all the parents to explain to them what Grip Spritz was.
Flash forward to this year and we really had our game together. Being Phenom's 20th anniversary, they doubled the size and included girls, as well as moving the event to Los Angeles.
Over 800 boys the first weekend and over 350 girls the next weekend. It was crazy!
During camp registration the day before, I was able to talk with players and parents about what Grip Spritz does, where they could find it in the gym the next day, and how our 'traction in a bottle' works!
Over 800 players was insane, to say the least. It was super cool how many already had Grip Spritz in their bags already when we spoke. It was definitely nice to see the brand growing and being recognized from social media.
Next year will be even bigger. Phenom will combine their Dallas event with this LA event for the girls. Super excited to get back out there, see familiar faces, and meet new ones!
