Basketball Floater Drill

Perfecting your ability to consistently knock down floaters will drastically change your basketball game. Guards at every level need to be able to finish over the top of taller defenders.

Trae Young Floater

You want to work on finishing with both hands as well as being able to take off from either foot. Being able to finish in traffic from both hands will make you unguardable once you get into the paint.

This also opens up plenty of opportunities for dump-offs or lobs once that help defender steps up from the big on the block or dunker spot.

You can get really creative with different ways to practice your floater.

These shots don't even have to be at a basket initially. Lots of this shot comes down to footwork. A long first step, followed by a shorter second step before exploding up to float the ball over the defender.

You can go the entire length of the court just working on that.

Once you get around the hoop, the main focus (outside of making the shot) needs to be on jumping up and not out. Jumping out can lead to charges.

You can work on this with a piece of tape on the court. Put it on the floor and work on landing on it.

Also, use anything you can get your hands on to create a defender. Something tall enough that you have to work on getting that shot up and over it.

Having a consistent floater can totally transform your offensive game!
